How To Create A Mailchimp Subscribe Form Using WPForms In WordPress

Creating a Mailchimp subscribe form for email marketing is a great way to add subscribers to your email list. And with the plugins like WPForms, it is so easy to do that.

In this article, I will show you how to create a Mailchimp subscribe form using WPForms. So let’s start.

Step – 1. Install and activate WPForms

First, you need to purchase WPForms’ Plus or a higher plan. WPForms also offers a free version, but for using their Mailchimp addon you need to buy their paid plan.

Once you have purchased the plugin, login to your WordPress dashboard and go to Plugins > Add New and Search for “WPForms” and install and activate the plugin.

After activating the plugin, go to WPForms > Settings and enter your premium license key which you get from WPForms after purchasing the plugin.

Step – 2. Create a Mailchimp Subscriber form

Now it is time to create your Mailchimp subscriber form. Before doing that, go to WPForms > Addons and install then activate the Mailchimp Addon.

Once your WPForms Mailchimp Addon is active, go to WPForms > Add New to create a new form.

WPForms comes with lots of pre-made templates. You can use one of them or select the Blank Form template to create a template from scratch.

But in this tutorial, I will be selecting the pre-made Newsletter Form template. So, enter the name of your form and select the Newsletter Form template.

After selecting it, you will be redirected to your form creation dashboard where you can edit your form.

To add a new field to your form, simply drag and drop the field from left to right. And to make changes on a field, just click on the field and change according to your needs.

After you have successfully designed your form, don’t forget to save your changes.

One of the most important form fields to consider adding to your Mailchimp signup form is the GDPR Agreement field.

GDPR Agreement field helps you to agree with your user from storing their personal information and sending them email marketing materials.

To add the GDPR Agreement field to your form, select the GDPR Agreement field from the left and drop it to your form.

If you don’t find any GDPR Agreement form field don’t worry about that. First, go to WPForms > Settings and click on the GDPR Enhancements checkbox.

Now back to your form editing dashboard and keep in mind, all you have to do is click on the form field to make changes to the default language the GDPR form field has.

Step – 3. Connect your form with Mailchimp

To connect your subscriber form to Mailchimp, go to Marketing then Mailchimp.

Next, click on the Add New Connection button to add a new connection.

After that, one popup will open where you need to enter your connect name. Enter any name, since this is for your reference only, and click OK.

In the next step, you will be asked to enter your Mailchimp API key. To get your Mailchimp API key, log in to your Mailchimp account. If you don’t have an account, create your Mailchimp account first.

Once you have successfully logged in to your account, go to Your Profile > Extras > API Keys.

Copy and paste your Mailchimp API Key into WPForms. Then confirm by clicking Add New Connection.

Once you have entered your API Key, on the next page you need to fill in all the details.

  • First, select your Mailchimp account.
  • Choose your email list where you want to add people when someone subscribes to your email list.
  • Click on the Email Address dropdown, and any other form fields you want to be added to your Mailchimp account when someone subscribes
  • If you want to use conditional login, you can enable it.
  • And in the end, enable the double optin option if you want.

After doing that, make sure you save all the changes.

Step – 4. Subscribe form notification settings configuration

Notifications are a great way to send a confirmation email notification to your users who joined your email newsletter as a subscriber.

You can also send an email to yourself. Or you can do that for both, one is for you and another one is for your subscriber.

Step – 5. Subscribe form confirmations settings configuration

Confirmations are a great way to let your site visitors know immediately that their form has been submitted.

With WPForms you can choose three types of confirmations.

a. With this, you can create a normal message. To create this type of message select Message from the drop-down and put your message.

b. If you select Show Page, you can redirect your users to a specific page.

If you want, you can create a ‘thank you’ page and after your users submit the form, you can redirect them to your ‘thank you’ page.

c. You can show your users a specific URL (like, you can show them a post and redirect them to any other sites). To do that, you need to select the Go to URL (Redirect) option and put your URL.

At least don’t forget to save all of this.

Step – 5. Add your Mailchimp subscribe form to your site

It’s time to add your form to your site. You can add this to any of your pages, posts, sidebars, also if you want you can use this form with your page builders (like Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, etc.).
